Longman Dictionary English

From Longman Dictionary of Contemporary EnglishTito, Marshal Josip BrozMarshal Josip Broz TitoTi‧to, Marshal Jos‧ip Broz /ˈtiːtəʊ, ˈjɒsəp brɒs $ ˈjɔːsəp ˈbrɔːs/ (1892–1980) a Yugoslav Communist politician, who was president of Yugoslavia from 1953 until his death. Although Yugoslavia was a communist state at this time, it was not influenced or controlled by the Soviet Union. Some people now say that Tito’s strong leadership kept Yugoslavia together as one country, and since his death it has separated into smaller parts.
